Microdermabrasion and How it Will Improve Your Skin

What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure that exfoliates and removes the surface layer of dead skin cells. The procedure is non-invasive, and the tool uses tiny crystals to exfoliate the skin. Some of the systems have suction to vacuum loose skin cells from the face. People who have fine lines, uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, and clogged pores will benefit most from the procedure.

Some of the systems have suction to vacuum loose skin cells from the face. People who have fine lines, uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, and clogged pores will benefit most from the procedure.

Different Microdermabrasion Treatments

Microdermabrasion can be done in the comfort of your home, at a medical office, or even at a spa. The major differences are that the devices used in a medical office usually have larger motors and more power. Also, when performed at a medical office or spa, the tools can penetrate deeper into the skin to provide precise exfoliation. Ideally, drugstore treatments are a good form of maintenance in between in-office microdermabrasion treatments.

When microdermabrasion is done in an office or spa there are two general methods:

Crystal Microdermabrasion

This form of microdermabrasion requires a handpiece that emits crystals onto the surface of the desired area. Dead skin cells are suctioned off of the skin.

Diamond -Tip Microdermabrasion

This type of microdermabrasion works with a diamond-tip handpiece. Just like the crystal microdermabrasion, the dead skin cells are suctioned off. The diamond-tip procedure is safer to perform closer to the eyes and the tool has more flexibility in sensitive areas or on more sensitive skin.

Works on All Skin Types

Microdermabrasion can be done on the face as well as the body and is effective on all skin types. Whether your skin is dry, oily, or normal, you can give this procedure a try. It is also safe for all skin complexions.

Benefits of Microdermabrasion

Refines Pores

While there’s no way to actually shrink the size of your pores, microdermabrasion can help significantly reduce the appearance, by unclogging the oil and dead skin that may be locked inside.

Stimulates Blood Flow

The delicate exfoliation of a microdermabrasion treatment boosts circulation in your face, which promotes efficient healing and restoration of your skin.

Increases Collagen Production

The amount of collagen that our bodies produce declines with age. Microdermabrasion can help develop more collagen and elastin. The result will be tighter, smoother, and younger looking skin.

Corrects Uneven Skin Tone

If you’re having difficulty with hyperpigmentation, dark spots, or acne scars, microdermabrasion can even out skin tone by eliminating dead and discolored skin.

Reduces Fine Lines and Wrinkles

Microdermabrasion minimizes the appearance of surface wrinkles, which makes it necessary to add to your anti-aging regimen.

What to Expect for your First Bikini Wax

It is common to be skeptical about getting a Bikini wax for the first time. Whether you’ve heard how much it hurts or been told horror stories about how a wax can go very wrong, we know that it can be frightening. The concept of paying someone big bucks to rip your hair out by the roots may seem insane. The secret is, it doesn’t hurt as bad as you may think, and you’ll be obsessed with the results. There’s no need to worry because we’ll let you know everything you need to know before taking that first trip to the wax salon.

First things first. It is normal to be self-conscious about exposing yourself to a complete stranger. To get rid of some of those nerves, think of your wax specialist as a gynecologist. They do this for a living and they’ve seen it all before. So, don’t worry about what they may be thinking about your lady parts.

It is vital to choose the right place to get your first wax. We do not recommend purchasing a wax kit and attempting to do it yourself. It is best to go to a salon that specializes in waxing, where they know the techniques that are easiest on the skin. Make sure the technicians’ licenses are on display and if not, be sure to check with your state’s office. One of the most important things to look out for is cleanliness. It is also a good idea to read some reviews online before choosing a location.

Once you’ve chosen a salon, you’ll then need to decide which type of bikini wax is best for you. There are various types of bikini waxes to choose from. It all depends on how much hair you want to be removed. The most popular style is the ‘Bikini’ and this technique involves only removing the hair from the areas that will be exposed while wearing a bathing suit. This is the ideal wax for first timers. Getting a ‘Brazilian’ requires removing a lot more hair. Usually all the hair is removed and just a ‘landing strip’ is left. You can also request different shapes for your landing strip if you’re feeling adventurous. The ‘Hollywood’ is going completely bald from front to back. Beginners beware! This probably isn’t the service you want your first time, but if you’re feeling brave, go for it!

During the procedure the wax specialist will have you lie down on a salon bed. The specialist will ask you to bend one leg and to leave the other flat. Some specialists’ will ask you to bend both legs and put the bottoms of your feet together. While wearing gloves the specialist will apply wax in small sections to your hair using a spatula. The wax will be warm, and the specialist should ask you if the temperature is good. Next, a strip of cloth or muslin is applied on top of the wax, the specialist will press down for a few seconds and then pull the strip off with one sharp tug. They will continue this process until all the desired hair is removed. When the specialist is done they’ll check to make sure they’ve removed all the hair and will use tweezers to remove any hair that was left behind. The last thing your wax specialist will do is apply a soothing cream all over. A little bit of redness may occur for a few hours after your wax.

We know the main thing you want to know is how painful it will be. Everyone’s threshold for pain is different, but this process will not be completely painless. Some areas will hurt a lot and in other areas you’ll barely flinch. The pain usually doesn’t last more than three seconds with every tug. The specialist will press down on the skin after removing the strip to alleviate pain. Taking pain medication before your appointment can help as well. The good news is that the more you have it done, the easier it gets.

Manscaping Tips for Beginners

Guys there’s no need to be bashful. The popularity of male waxing is growing and there’s nothing wrong with wanting to be well groomed. More men are opening up about hair removal and which parts of the body require the most attention. We are here to fill you in on everything you need to know about the manscaping trend.

Most men would probably prefer to try waxing from the privacy of their home, but we suggest going to a wax salon where they can make your waxing experience as comfortable as possible. The most popular areas of the body for men to wax are the chest, back, and the intimate area. At a wax salon they know the best techniques to remove hair from each part of the body and the appropriate products to use on the skin.

Tip number one, if you have thick and long body hair you can trim before going to your wax appointment. You’ll thank us later because this will make hair removal much less painful. Don’t trim too much though. Your hair will need to be between ¼ and ½ long for the wax specialist to effectively remove the hair. It’s better for it to be a little long rather than too short. Make sure that you don’t shave at least three weeks prior to your wax appointment to ensure the hair is long enough.

Prior to waxing take a shower to clean and exfoliate the areas of the skin you’ll be getting waxed. Do not apply any moisturizers, cologne, or oils to the skin because it is easier for hair to be removed from dry skin. Additionally, you can take pain medication 30 minutes before your appointment to help with the pain.

Yes, unfortunately there will be some pain involved. But it won’t hurt as much as you imagine. Pain varies depending on the area of the body being waxed and it only lasts a few seconds. After the wax strip is removed, the specialist will press down on the skin to help the pain subside quicker.

The reward will be silky smooth skin for up to three weeks. You won’t have to shave every day, and this will lessen the possibilities of ingrown hairs. Another benefit of waxing is that the hair will grow back slower, thinner, and less coarse. If you make it a routine the results will begin to last even longer.

You’ve been reading about microblading for a while now. Microblading is basically eyebrow tattoos that look like natural eyebrows, rather than the old school tattoo eyebrows that looked anything but natural.

What is microblanding?

During the microblading process we use a special microblading pen to draw on individual strokes one by one. Our eyebrow artists manually apply natural brow tattoos of individual hair strokes to your skin in order to create attractive, realistic brows. Read more

Celebrities Speak: Groom that Bush!

Celebrities Speak: Groom that Bush!

When it comes to pubic hair, most people, groom their pubic hair some other way. Some trim it with scissors, other people– like Jennifer Lopez – break out the razor, and some others, just go Brazilian. It only takes a trip to the local salon – like Wax Spa – to get a good waxing or laser treatment.

Needless to say, each style preference is left up to the individual. The one thing that is common among the general population is that there is a constant pressure on maintaining some sort of grooming from society. Not a lot of people are pleased to deal with other people’s bushes.

Waxing and laser is particularly common among celebrities whose bodies are often exposed in photo and video shoots to the public. Some want to be well groomed, and some want it all gone. Here are our three top celebrities who hate the “bush.”

Jennifer Aniston

The beloved Jennifer Aniston – also known as Rachel from the hit television show, Friends – has no shame on saying that she removes all pubic hair. All of it. In fact, it’s been reported that she is obsessed with staying hair-free. For Jennifer, wax is the perfect option.

Rihanna

The worldwide singing sensation is a natural hit-maker when it comes to music. Not only she sings with smoothness, but her down region is also smooth. She has confessed to actually enjoy getting Brazilian waxes. In the literal sense.  When getting a wax session at a spa, she turned down the numbing cream and laughed: ‘No way, I love the pain. It feels good to me.’

Kim Kardashian

Kim is known everywhere basically for being known. Aside from her infamous sex tape – which gave everyone a view of her pubic hair area situation. Kardashian told Allure “I am Armenian, so of course I am obsessed with laser hair removal! Arms, bikini, legs, underarms … my entire body is hairless.”

10 reasons Why Waxing Beats Shaving

shutterstock_464429735To wax or to shave? It is a good question for both men and women nowadays. Actually, this simple life choice can affect your everyday life. Shaving can be an easy and fast option for removing your body hair because it’s cheap. It only takes a razor and a couple of minutes to be ready to go. On the other hand, waxing can be a little bit more expensive, but more time efficient in the long run – along with many other benefits. When comparing pros and cons, and choosing what’s best for you and your skin, there is only one winner: waxing.

Here are ten specific reasons why you should choose waxing as your primary hair removal method:

1. No more cuts

Razors and cuts are close friends. When shaving, you can harm yourself due to sharp blades, or just thinking and getting distracted. Unintentional cuts on your skin aren’t fun, but they’re very likely to happen if you shave regularly. Waxing just takes about a 45 min trip to the spa once a month. Our professional waxing experts at Wax Spa will help you have the best experience possible.

2. No more itching

If you’ve ever shaved your legs, armpits or pubic areas, you know what we’re talking about here. It’s ITCHY! This is a very common problem for women and men even right after shaving. What about when you go to the beach? Itchier! With waxing, this is prevented by using high-quality and nourishing waxes like the ones used at Wax Spa.

3. Long-lasting results

What shaving basically does is to cut off the visible part of the hair that’s on the surface of your skin. Unfortunately, that hair showing is much larger than that. That’s the reason why after shaving, hair grows back quickly compared to waxing. Waxing actually removes the hair from the root, taking your hair longer to show off your skin – three to four weeks – since it has to grow back again.

4. Goodbye hairs. Maybe. Most Likely.

Since hairs are pulled out from the root when you wax, the hair follicles are weakened. When hair grows back, it’s less strong and it will continue to be weaker as you regularly wax. It may even cease to grow!

5. Hello thinner hairs.

You already know that weakens the hair follicles, right? Now, this also makes your hairs start to grow much thinner. Also, hairs will become easier to pull out.

6. Waxing removes dead skin cells

Another benefit from waxing is that it also exfoliates your skin. Have you ever felt your skin smoother after waxing? This is because when you pull out the wax from your skin, it takes away dead cells and leaves a brand-new layer of skin.

7. Smoother outcome

Your skin will be smoother and more attractive after your waxing session. This is a huge benefit that comes along with waxing and puts it on top of the preferred hair- removal methods list.

8. No more hyperpigmentation

In some cases, hyperpigmentation – when small areas of the skin become darker than the rest –  is developed because of shaving constantly. This will never happen with waxing!

9. Endless Options

At Wax Spa, we provide you the option to choose among different body waxes with scents and moisturizing properties, and we only use body waxing that protect sensitive skins. Alternatives are endless…

10. Better results overall!

Even though shaving is faster than waxing, it won’t give you long term results. On the other hand, waxing just takes about a 45-minute trip to the spa once a month and you’ll get benefits that will help you in the long run. Shaving can save you when all of a sudden you need to attend a party or any other kind of special event. It might be the easiest way out, but it’s certainly not the best. However, waxing is the preferred option for a healthy skin. Perks of pulling out the hair from the root!

Synthetic vs. Silk vs. Mink – What Eyelash Type to Choose?

shutterstock_450265984One of the things that people often wonder before getting eyelash extensions is: What’s the difference? As you may know there are three types of eyelash extensions: synthetic, silk and mink. Understating the pros and cons of getting one or the other type of eyelash extension is crucial for your overall final look – We want you to look fabulous!

Synthetic eyelash extensions: If you want to go for a more dramatic and made-up look, this is probably your best option. In appearance, they are a little shinier or glossier than the other options. Because they are made from acrylic material, they are the firmest of all which allows them to hold their curl always on point.

Synthetic eyelashes should –most likely-  be used for younger clients that have healthy and dense lashes of their own to avoid thinning of natural lashes. These eyelashes are thick and heavier than other types and are a great option for someone with very thick natural lashes who’s seeking for a simply fantastic.

Silk eyelash extensions: If you are looking for a mid-weight type of lash extensions that give you a finer and more flexible look than the synthetic type, this is the choice for you. These eyelashes look naturally glamorous, yet thick as the synthetic ones. It’s a good option for people who have weak or fine eyelashes because they are lighter weight. So, for a more natural look that lasts longer than synthetic, yet still looks full and curly, this is the option for you.

Faux-mink lash extensions: These are man-made imitation of a real mink fur. This is the option for those who want to get very fine, soft and silky eyelashes. They go closer to your eye, giving a more natural look, yet with a glossy look. If you want a dramatic “Kardashian look” this is not the best option for you. They don’t tend to twist and can last a couple of weeks with proper care. However, this type of eyelash extensions takes a lot longer to apply and are more expensive.

Bottom line: If you are looking for a dramatic look, consider getting a synthetic eyelash extension. For a more natural look, we definitely recommend mink.

At Wax Spa,we specialize on synthetic eyelash extensions because they come in different types, colors and lengths to fit everyone’s definition of glamour. You can also choose from pre-curled short, medium, or long synthetic lashes that can look natural (think “athletic length”) or ultra-dramatic for a red carpet look.

Each individual lash is attached one-by-one via a trained technician and curved to replicate a natural eyelash for maximum volume. The feathery, light-weight lashes are water resistant and can last for several months if touch-ups are maintained every two to three weeks.
